TAJIKISTAN
I visited Tajikistan in the fall of 2017.

Musical traditions in remote regions like the Pamirs are sometimes preserved in just a few individuals a situation the Aga Khan Trust for Culture is trying to redress through its music schools scattered throughout Central Asia.*

Painting and two-dimensional art were only revived are were only revived under the Soviets, who introduced European aesthetics and set up schools to train local artists in the new fashion.*

The 12th-century Yamchun (Zulkhomar) Fort is the most impressive of the valley's many tumbledown castle ruins, complete with multiple walls and round watchtowers.*

Tajik Persian poetry is fused with music by hafiz (bard musicians).  Falak is a popular form of melancholic fold music, often sung a cappella.*

Music and dance are particularly popular among the Pamiri and Kulabi.*

A glorious know of spiky peaks rise above likeable Langar where the Pamir and Wakhan Rivers join forces to form the Pyanj.*
