​I visited Bahrain in February 2020.

Built by the Portuguese in the 16th century, it is part of the Unesco World Heritage site believed to have been the capital of the ancient Dilmun Empire.*

Crafts are generally carried out in cottage industries or cooperatives, with people working from the privacy of their own inner courtyards.*

A'Ali is a lively residential town...home to Bahrain's best pottery district, where many of the local Shia families still run their workshops and fire their crafts in traditional kilns.* ​

This government-run centre (Al Jasra Handicraft Centre) encourages tourists to visit locals trained in age-old traditional skills like model-boat building and basket weaving.*
