Journey 5: Overland to Kaieteur Falls
I filmed Mary Bray when she travelled to one of the world's highest waterfalls in Guyana. We trekked through malaria infested jungles and panned for gold and diamonds in this resource rich country. What did I learn from this experience? What decisions would you make concerning the logistics of this journey? What would you learn from having a similar experience? |

Journey 6: The Himba Way
A tribal group of not more than 50,000 people, the Himba are a semi-nomadic pastoral people. The women in particular are famous for smearing themselves with a fragrant mixture of ochre, butter and bush herbs, which dyes their skin a burnt-orange hue, and serves as a natural sunblock and insect repellent.* After several hours travelling by local bus, I arrived in northwestern Namibia and filmed ordinary activities in two nearby villages. What did I learn from this experience? What decisions would you make concerning the logistics of this journey? What would you learn from having a similar experience? |

Journey 7: Bhutan on the Cheap
All tourists must pay US$200 per person per day (US$250 a day from 2012), with a US$40/30 surcharge per person for those in a group of one/two. This covers accommodation, transport in Bhutan, guide, food and entry fee.* Not having those financial resources, I partnered with a Bhutanese company sharing my marketing and video expertise in exchange for a reduced rate of $50 per day. What did I learn from this experience? What decisions would you make concerning the logistics of this journey? What would you learn from having a similar experience? Journey 8: The Dani
Dani from the Baliem Valley live in compounds of huts made from trees and mud, raising their precious pigs. They still often use stone implements to farm their dietary/agricultural staple, the sweet potato.* For several days, I filmed Dani activities in the northern part of Papua Indonesia. What did I learn from this experience? What decisions would you make concerning the logistics of this journey? What would you learn from having a similar experience? |
