Many of the most unique cultures on our planet are being wiped out by globalization, technology, climate change, a rapidly changing economic landscape.
Berbers have been resisting efforts to Arabise their communities ever since the arrival of Islam in the seventh century. Berbers' old practices are now considered in popular Islamic interpretation to be ‘satanic’ or ‘heathen’. Earlier this year the Moroccan government banned Berber names for newborn children in order to stress the Islamic identity of the nation’s population. |
