Joan travels by hydrofoil on Lake Titicaca to Sun Island. With guide in tow, she takes a stairway to the top of the island and learns about the many myths associated with the island.
That night, she attends a ritual where a guinea pig is sacrificed to the gods to ensure a good harvest the following year.

Slowly adapting to the high altitude, Joan explores La Paz's market place.
